Saturday April 15th saw seven couples take the dance floor at the Clayton Hotel, Galway, in a “Strictly Come Dancing” style competition in aid of the Galway Autism Partnership.
I was honoured to be the master of ceremonies for the night and feel like I had a special insight into what the couples were going through given that I entered a similar competition for Weight Watchers around three years ago.
At that time Ollie Turner from Galway Bay FM was the host and did an amazing job and as this was my first time as the MC for a dancing competition I thought back to Ollie’s performance and tried to tap in to that same enthusiasm he had. To be honest, that was the easy part as I fed off the enthusiasm of the seven couples. Yes, they were all nervous but they were all there to help out GAP and give something back and the excitement just glowed out of them. Myself and the audience fed of that excitement.
The four judges, including the remarkable Jay Molynuex, had the difficult task of choosing a winner from the top threw couples chosen by the audience. I was certainly glad I didn’t have that job!
With music following on after the competition the night was a great success and ending up bring in over €10’000 for the Galway Autism Partnership.
I was truly honoured to be part of this event.
GAP runs on donations and does some amazing work. Why not give them a quick €4 donation by text BLUE to 50300.
